Spark Erosion - Electro Discharge Machining (EDM)

PGT Ceewrite’s capabilities include Spark Erosion also known as Electro Discharge Machining (EDM), which is ideal as a manufacturing process for removing excess material not usually accessible or achievable by conventional machining processes.

Spark Erosion (EDM) is based on a continuous spark between the work and an electrode within a vibrating head. The principal uses coolant to create a thermal shock which reduces the scrap material into fine particles with the coolant washing the excess material away.

The process requires very high temperatures, generating typical peaks close to 5000 degree centigrade. As a result of the item being worked and submerged in the coolant tank a thermal shock is created resulting in no heating of the surrounding material. This is a significant benefit for customers requiring high levels of material consistency as it eliminates heat to the surrounding area of work. No distortion or change in temper takes place.
